What prompts a street preacher to convict the world of sin? Doesn’t this push people away from God, rather than to Him? So many have wondered these questions, and here we will discuss them in full detail.

By no means do I have any personal vendetta against street preachers. In fact, I give them respect for having such a passion to teach the Word of God while people criticize them.

Many of the street preachers that I have witnessed first hand condemn the world of their mistakes rather than help them find God. For instance, I’ve been around some who will yell awful things at people. Saying, “You’re gay you have long hair” or “You’re going to hell you gambler!” because the man was walking with a chicken in a third world country. Though it’s likely that he was a gambler, but was it necessary to point out their sin in this manner? My favorite was when he said, “Repent you hooker” because the woman had her work clothes on from the mall, which consisted of a skirt that was just above the knees.

Preaching Styles That Aren’t Biblical

There is another way to preach rather than throwing stones at every person who walks by the street corner. Just ask yourself, “How did Jesus preach?” Did He condemn every sinner of all of their mistakes by yelling at them? No! He simply asked them to repent of their sins. Jesus however rebukes the religious people by calling them “Brood of vipers” many times. Brood of vipers means to the Jews an unclean animal, or “Off the purity scale” as the animal is unclean to eat. The greek term makes it more complicated, as serpents are used to describe a divine evil or danger. The religious people, Pharisees, probably acted a whole lot like these street preachers do now with their self-righteous attitudes.

“He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.” John 8:7 KJV

Jesus says, “Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.” – Luke 6:37 Isn’t this as clear as it can get? Last thing I’m trying to do is confuse anybody, and we know “God is not the author of confusion” 1st Cor 14:33. The Words which are spoken are used to undercover the “Truth!” Judging and condemning others is just another means of sin. Just because some decide to sin differently than us, doesn’t make them any worse! “He who keeps the whole law, but stumbles in one point is guilty of all” James 2:10 We are all sinners and all in need of forgiveness, so we too must forgive!

Jesus said “You judge by human standards; I pass judgement on no one.” – John 8:15

Biblical Street Preachers Are Rare!

Should this continue to hinder others from finding God? It appears to be one of the biggest stumbling blocks for so many people, especially in the United States! So many Americans have told me how judgmental Christians are. This is the last thing any “Christ-Like” person should ever do! We should welcome the broken, sick, hookers, and drug dealers with arms wide open, just as Jesus had His open for us on the cross! God came down to save “all people” not just the widows and orphans, but every single person who walks this earth. The approach of the street preachers needs to be re-adjusted. There is no problem with telling them the Gospel; it’s only how to do it biblically!

Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You shut the kingdom of heaven in men’s faces. You yourselves do not enter, nor will you let those enter who are trying to. Matthew 23:13 NIV

Jack goes walking into the grocery store, until Sam yelled at him and interrupted! These two men had no relations with one another, and this is the first time they’ve ever met. Jack is so surprised by the whole ordeal that he just walks away confused. The whole time Sam had been yelling at him for shaving his head and saying “You’ll never get to heaven and God can’t hear you!” In the Bible it says, “Do not cut the hair at the sides of your head” like the pagans do, but Jack didn’t know this. Later the next day, he meets up with his new friend, Roger, who he meets at the gym. Roger informed Jack that his hairstyle wasn’t proper, and that it was a sin. He even showed him the verse in Leviticus 19:27 where it states that clearly. Who do you think is in the proper place to rebuke? Who would you listen to?

Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother. – Matthew 18:15 KJV

The Scripture above is quite clear, correct? That we are suppose to help our brothers out by exposing the sin in private. To publicly rebuke without a prior warning is to disobey God’s order! Thus, is a sin! Do not be “children of disobedience!” God designed this process for a reason. God didn’t make a mistake in writing the verse that way. It serves a purpose so that love will overcome evil. Now go and do likewise; love as God loves!

Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance? – Romans 2:4 KJV
